There’s lots of ways to say something. And there’s lots of ways in which to do so.
One way to look at mediums is how well they compress.
This can be understood in both a literal sense (e.g. the number of bytes they take to represent digitally) and an abstract one. Something said over text has the least amount of noise possible.
Consider a simple example. “The boy threw a ball.” In text that’s five words. It can be written in seconds and read even faster. If this same idea is expressed as an interactive animation, it’d take days of manhours and years of experience to make, and minutes to experience.
The tradeoff here is with expression.
When someone reads, “The boy threw a ball,” there are uncountably many details they have to fill in.
